And so it begins...

Well I started running yesterday. I was my first time in a LONG time since I have been swimming so much. It felt really great and got me really excited for March! A friend in my ward passed along this web site to help keep track of your distance when you do your outside runs: www.gmaps-pedometer.com . According to that, I did a 4.5 walk/run yesterday. Just add on another 8 or so miles and I will be ready. Happy running!

Goodbye Donuts, Hello Celery

Thanks to Brettman for getting this blog started. I told Anne that since there is now a blog for the Moab half marathon I can't fake an injury to get out of racing. I'm looking forward to training and updating the blog. My only real fear in running in Moab is the elevation difference between Cleveland and Moab. I'll just have to be over prepared.I guess I'll have to live through Homer these next couple of months!

Hang on to your toe nails...

"Most people run a race to see who is fastest.
I run a race to see who has the most guts."
- Steve Prefontaine

Well, it is that time of the year again. Summer has ebbed into Fall, the nights are crisp and the days are pleasant...and the Moab Half Marathon is about as many weeks away as it is miles long--give or take a few.

That means it is time to start training. The next few months will be filled with carbo-loading, sore muscles, cramps, sore nipples, blisters, and a few black and blue toe nails. Trust me--you will be glad you did it once it is all over.

Training for a marathon is just as much mental preparation as it is physical preparation. Your body can run 13.1 miles. You just have to convince your mind that you can do it. After that, it is just one foot in front of the other.

And remember, lost toe nails are a badge of honor... so let the road to Moab begin.
